Kofler Wins the Title!!

20130722_005132-1 (1)

Eddie Kofler of Tampa, a former pitcher in the Devil Rays’ minor-league system from 1996-2001, threw RJ Sullivan a curve ball in the form of a bluff, then fired a couple of fastballs by him with pocket aces, as he wrapped up 1st place in the PPC Tampa Downs main event after midnight on Sunday night. Kofler collected $28,687 and a travel package of over $5,000 to the PPC Aruba series in October. Sullivan, of Bradenton, also picked up an Aruba package plus the 2nd place prize money of $17,734.

Kofler poses with the trophy along with PPC Aruba Commissioner Sandy Swartzbaugh and Tournament Director Patrick Murphy of Tampa Bay Downs.

Head to Head for the Title…

RJ Sullivan and Eddie Kofler go for the trophy and $28,687 first prize, as Aaron Martin gets knocked out in 3rd place ($12,880). Martin was crippled by Kofler after Martin went all-in with A-5 offsuit after a flop of 10-9-5 rainbow. Kofler was holding 10-8 offsuit and his call was the right move as his pair of 10’s held up, leaving Martin with less than 100K. He subsequently went to the rail on the following hand, and after collecting his prize money, poses here with Sandy Swartzbaugh.

20130722_002034-1

Final three players continue to go back and forth

Eddie Kofler (top), Aaron Martin (middle) and RJ Sullivan (bottom)have battled for nearly an hour, and for a good portion of that time, Sullivan appeared to be dominating the action. However, one massive suckout by Martin evened things up quickly. Martin inexplicably went all-in with 8-7 offsuit and RJ quickly called with Ah-2D. A beautifully rich flop of K-Q-J of hearts gave Sullivan a royal flush draw, but a blank on the turn and an eight on the river elicited gasps around the room and Aaron suddenly had the chip lead, which he relinquished two hands later to Kofler. As we head to Level 25, where the blinds will be 50K and 100K with a 10K ante, the three players are nearly even, with about 2.5-million chips each. Could they possibly discuss a chop? Not sure, but no sign of anything close to that yet.
